Previous Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey has denied the charges to making false statements to lawmakers and impeding a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's lawyer entered the answer on his behalf in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.

The defense lawyer declared he would try to have the case thrown out for various causes including that his client, a detractor of Donald Trump, was being targeted.

James Comey was charged soon after the former president pushed his attorney general to take action against him.

Judicial Process

In court on Wednesday, Comey's lawyer the legal representative informed the judge they intended to file multiple motions to throw out the legal matter before a legal hearing, claiming the government's case was vindictive and that a US attorney was unlawfully assigned to take over the proceedings.

James Comey's case was originally handled by a Virginia prosecutor, who left his position under scrutiny from Donald Trump after his examination into a different political adversary - NY AG Letitia James - failed to bring criminal charges.

Judicial Environment

Mr Comey came across in good spirits as he walked into the legal venue on Wednesday, conversing with his legal team and sharing humor. He was supported by his spouse, Patrice Failor and child his daughter, a US lawyer who the previous administration terminated.

Upon hearing to the magistrate read his legal protections and the pair of allegations against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, the defendant was inquired if he understood the allegations.

"Yes your honour. Thank you," he informed the court.

Previous Events

The former director was the head of the FBI from four years and was dismissed about a few months into the former president's initial presidency as president. At the period, he was leading an examination into foreign election meddling and whether there were any links between Moscow and the presidential campaign.

During his tenure, the director triggered a negative reaction from the Democratic party when he declared just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was investigating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email system. Charges against the candidate were never brought, causing negative feedback from Republicans as well.

Current Allegations

The federal government allege Mr Comey lied to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being questioned about both the previous examination as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They say he provided false information to the legislative body by stating he had not permitted an individual at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to disclose to media organizations information about the FBI investigations.

Prosecutors also accuse the defendant of "wrongfully trying to affect, obstruct and delay" the panel by giving misleading testimony to it.

Individual Responses

In a video Mr Comey published to his Instagram after he was indicted, he stated he was wrongly accused and alleged Donald Trump of behaving like a "autocrat".

"Our household have been aware for years that there are consequences to challenging Donald Trump," he said. "We will not live on our kneeling."
"I am not guilty," he stated further. "Thus initiate a trial."

The charges against Mr Comey emerged after the former president published on online platforms insisting on his chief prosecutor, the attorney general, take legal action against James Comey and other people.
