F1 Singapore
Race weekend features the grand prix starting at 13:00 BST on race day.
Live coverage streamed on digital platforms and BBC Sport.
FP1 Results Highlights
Aston Martin's two-time champion was fastest in front of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Dutch ace during first practice at the Singapore Grand Prix.
McLaren's drivers Oscar Piastri and British talent concluded the run in mid-table positions.
The young Australian was 0.217 seconds faster than his teammate.
Alonso was a tenth and a half in front of the Ferrari driver and over a quarter of a second faster than the Red Bull star.
The Italian squad's seven-time champion was P4.
Weekend Outlook
Few anticipate that Aston Martin will be front-runners for pole position.
That said, the team are hopeful of a strong showing on a tight circuit that is ideally suited to their car, which performs better when high levels of downforce are called for.
Two-time champion Alonso is also known as a Singapore specialist, and typically performs well on the night race venue.
Yet he was probably running a lighter load or a higher engine mode than his opponents, or a combination, to achieve that pace.
Team Updates
Partner Lance Stroll was 1.918secs off the pace in P18.
The Canadian had difficulties with his cockpit early in the session and was also evaluating new components.
The first session in Singapore is not reflective of race pace for qualifying and race as it is run in afternoon sun in late afternoon, while qualifying and the race are staged at night.
Points Situation
The McLaren driver has an advantage over his teammate by a quarter-century with seven races ahead heading into the Grand Prix in Singapore.
McLaren are poised to secure the manufacturers' crown on Sunday.
Sole scenario they can not tie it up in Singapore is if the Silver Arrows surpass them by 31 points or Ferrari do so by a similar margin.
Rival Teams
Red Bull are hopeful of a strong result after Max's wins in Italy and Azerbaijan ahead of this event.
It was a relief when light rain occurring before the session cleared by the moment the cars took to the track on a circuit that had remained dry.
Team consultant Red Bull's advisor said before the session that they needed a uninterrupted running to begin properly on fine-tuning their car configuration for the event.
